Fuel truck runs off road, hit by train

A train struck a semi-truck carrying roughly 10,000 gallons of jet fuel on Monday.

According to Oregon State Police, Texas truck driver Richard T. James, 72, was traveling on U.S. Highway 730 near the state line when the truck left the road, slid down an embankment, and rolled onto its side, coming to rest on railroad tracks.

One train was able to stop before crashing into the overturned truck, but a second train struck the tanker. The Oregon Region 10 HazMat Team responded to the area, and James was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston with possible minor injuries, according to OSP.

Highway 730 was closed for roughly eight hours, according to OSP.

No environmental damage was reported.
