If the prize for eating a quarter-pound hot dog the fastest is one quarter-pound hot dog a month for a year, it doesn’t hurt to add in a membership to a gym.
As organizers of the first ever Andrae’s Kitchen at the Co-op eating competition prepare for the event one week from today, they’ve added a healthy incentive to the mix: The winner will receive a year’s membership to Calhoon’s 24-hour gym on Isaacs Avenue.
The winner will be the fastest eater of an AK-47, the specialty dog created by chef Andrae Bopp. Lest potential participants think it’s merely a quarter-pound hot dog, the AK-47 is a bacon-wrapped dog topped with housemade poutine — hand-cut fries, gravy, cheddar cheese, sour cream and green onions.
The eating competition is designed to commemorate the first anniversary of Andrae’s Kitchen at the Co-op, Ninth Avenue and Rose Street.
To enter, potential participants must text “AKS” to 87940. The selection will be made next week. The event runs 4-6 p.m. March 7.
