WALLA WALLA — A resident in the 300 block of North Tausik Way reported an attempted burglary turned into a gun battle this morning at roughly 1:22 a.m. First reports of the alleged gunplay were picked up via scanner traffic, and Walla Walla Police confirmed the initial call.
Officer Tim Bennett, Walla Walla police spokesman, said officers responded to aid sheriff’s deputies, and assisted the initial investigation and search for suspects.
Radio traffic indicated the resident of a house near the Eastgate Seventh-day Adventist Church reported suspects unknown had attempted to burglarize his house. The man reported he fired two shots from a firearm, and the suspected burglar or burglars returned fire.
Walla Walla County Sheriff John Turner declined to comment this morning on the gunplay.
“I’m not in a position to comment,” Turner said, stating the investigation is ongoing.
