Painting, music classes off map, but still offered


WALLA WALLA — Some highly sought after classes for senior citizens may have fallen slightly off the map, but are still available.

Joyce Anderson’s various watercolor classes, previously available through Walla Walla Community College, are now offered through the Walla Walla Parks and Recreation Department and Center at the Park, Walla Walla’s senior center.

Registration is required in order for the classes to proceed. The classes, dates and costs are:

“Beginning Watercolors” at Carnegie Center, Jan. 8-Feb. 26, 5:30-7:30 p.m., $81. No artistic talent or experience is required. Students will learn about materials and use of colors. Sign up at 527-4527.

“Intermediate/Advanced” at Carnegie Center, Jan. 7-Feb. 25, 5:30-8:30 p.m., $104. Strategies and techniques of water colors is the focus with emphasis on how different colors are used, as well as values and contrasts to achieve depth. No experience required.

“Intermediate/Advanced” at Center at the Park, Jan. 10-Feb. 28, 1-4 p.m., $80. Call 527-3775 to sign up.

“Beginners and Intermediate/Advanced” at Center at the Park, Jan. 11-March 1, 1-4 p.m., $80. Both classes are taught the same day and time, but separate projects are experience-specific.

Also Roy Anderson’s “The Mighty Ukulele” class will be offered Jan. 7-Feb. 25 at Carnegie Center, 5:30-6:30 p.m., $40. Those 12 and older are invited to bring their ukuleles and learn to tune, strum, play chords and simple songs.
