Nine organizations expecting to draw visitors to Walla Walla through special events in 2012 will get a boost from Tourism Walla Walla.
The agency has announced recipients of its annual matching grant program. The $12,500 in funds are designated for tourism projects with long-term benefits to the community.
The recipients and their respective grants are:
The Downtown Walla Walla Foundation: $2,000 for support of Feast Walla Walla and the printing of the “Wine & Dine Guide.”
Shakespeare Walla Walla: $2,000 to support this year’s Shakespeare Festival.
The Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival: $3,000.
Tour of Walla Walla: $1,000 to get the word out to cycling groups in the Pacific Northwest.
Daily Market Cooperative: $500 for the Walla Walla Valley farm map.
Walla Walla Guitar Festival: $1,500 for the March event.
Friends of Children of Walla Walla: $500 to support “Jazz & Wine.”
Walla Walla Symphony: $500 to support “Romeo & Juliet” in February.
Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce: $2,000 to help attract film and television projects to the area.
The call for applications was issued last fall. Tourism Walla Walla, the tourism promotional agency for the Walla Walla Valley, gives priority to projects that increase overnight visitation to the Valley, increase off-season tourism, encourage cooperative partnerships between local organizations and establish clear, meaningful and measurable results, the announcement said.
