Whitman men beat Pacific, 76-65

FOREST GROVE — Whitman’s men’s basketball team improved its Northwest Conference record to 3-1 and overall mark to 9-4 here Saturday night with a 76-65 victory over Pacific.

Ryan Gilkey came off the bench and led the Missionaries with 18 points. He was 6-of-9 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. Gilkey also pulled down six rebounds.

Josh Duckworth added 13 points for Whitman despite a sub-par shooting night (5-of-15). Ben Eisenhardt paced the Missionaries with eight rebounds.

Whitman led 41-25 at halftime and withstood a late Boxer charge. Pacific (0-2 NWC, 7-4) pulled within five, 70-65, with 1:10 left before the Missionaries put the game away by sinking six free throws in as many tries over the final 1:06 of play.
