WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Sweets have signed two UCLA players for the 2013 West Coast League baseball season.
Bruins freshman Cody Poteet, a right-handed pitcher, is a native of Bonita, Calif. and a graduate of Christian High School.
The 6-foot 1-inch, 190-pound righty was a three-year prep varsity letter winner in baseball and as a junior batted .509 with 13 doubles, 23 RBI and 20 stolen bases.
Poteet will play his first season of college baseball this spring at UCLA under head coach John Savage.
Luke Persico, a senior at Great Oak High School in Temecula, Calif., is a 6-3, 175-pound, outfielder who has committed to play at UCLA after graduation. Before transferring to Great Oak, Persico played for three seasons at Hart High School in Newhall, Calif., hitting .267 with 12 RBI, three home runs, and 18 stolen bases in 86 at-bats.
UCLA opens the college season on Feb. 15 with a three-game series against Minnesota.
