Corrections workers plan to march and rally in Olympia Thursday to demand safer working conditions.
Organized by Teamsters Local 117, the employees and supporters will assemble on the Capitol campus at 9:30 a.m. and march around the State Capitol building. A rally on the Capitol steps will follow.
In a release, Teamsters spokesman Paul Zilly said the employees are demanding safer working conditions, greater accountability at the Department of Corrections and legislation to give correctional workers the same rights as their counterparts at other public safety agencies.
Zilly said more than 500 prison workers from around the state, including Walla Walla, have registered to attend the event.
