COLLEGE PLACE — DeSales controlled the glass and, except for the third quarter, controlled Tuesday’s Southeast 2B girls basketball game with Walla Walla Valley Academy en route to a 59-40 victory over the Knights.

After falling behind 29-13 after the first quarter WWVA outscored the Irish 21-14 in the third and made it a nine-point game thanks to a volley of 3-pointers.

“We had a three-pointer rim out when we were down nine in the third,” WWVA coach Lloyd Redberg said. “We hit three 3-pointers in the period to get it to nine but then missed (the fourth). We couldn’t come any closer.”

Emily Baumgart led the Irish with 16 points and Emily Field led the Knights with 12.

The Irish outrebounded the Knights 43-to-21. Allison Wujek pulled down 11 boards to lead the way.

“If we had blocked out better and boarded better,” Redberg said, “we could have limited the second-chance points and made the game a lot closer.”

WWVA (5-5 0-3 SE2B) visits Tri-Cities Prep Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Irish host Dayton Friday at 6 p.m.
