WALLA WALLA — Pomeroy dominated Wa-Hi’s junior varsity team Tuesday night, winning 11 of 12 matches against the Blue Devils and Waitsburg-Prescott.
The Pirates pinned nine Wa-Hi wrestlers on the evening and took one decision over the only Waitsburg-Prescott wrestler they faced.
Pomeroy’s Clayton King pinned Wa-Hi’s Joey Camacho with 1:39 elapsed in the first round.
Pomeroy had five freshmen hit the mats.
“It can be tough for freshman to start out and wrestle as first-year high school students,” Pomeroy coach Brian Slaybaugh said.
Greg Florek got two victories for Pomeroy. Florek pinned Wa-Hi’s Brandon Hernandez and won by disqualification over the Blue Devils’ Alec Carrera.
Pomeroy had two wrestlers at both 152 pounds and 160. All four wrestlers garnered victories.
W-P’s Trenton Kitselman picked up a pin at 145 pounds, Steven Grimes did the same at 170 pounds and Tristan Newman pinned Wa-Hi’s Kurt Blackman in 1:23.
W-P next wrestles at Ritzville on Jan. 17.
The Pirates wrestle again Saturday at Royal City.
Wa-Hi’s JV grapplers join the Blue Devil varsity at Chiawana on Thursday.
