ATHENA — Union rambled to a 38-26 lead at halftime against Weston-McEwen Tuesday night, but a re-energized TigerScots team emerged at halfime and escaped with a 53-50 Blue Mountain Conference victory over the Bobcats.

“It was the tale of two halves,” W-M coach Brian Pickard said. “That first half we were standing around on both ends of the court. We were getting outrebounded and outhustled. We just turned it around in the second half.”

Tyler Peterson led all scorers with 20 points and Lance Thacker added 15 more, including a trio of 3-pointers.

“He hit some key jumpshots from the perimeter when they tried to go zone on us,” Pickard said of Thacker.

Linton McAllister didn’t find the scorer’s column but picked up eight rebounds and six blocks off the bench for forward Nick Pease, who ran into foul trouble.

Jacob Ramirez scored five points and had seven assists and eight steals.

Weston-McEwen (9-6, 4-3 BMC) visits league foe Stanfield Friday.
