PASCO — Walla Walla Valley Academy lost its first game of the season Thursday, a 58-54 defeat at the hands of Tri-Cities Prep in a Southeast 2B boys basketball game.

The Knights (10-1, 2-1 SE2B) outrebounded the Jaguars (5-6, 3-0 SE2B) and hit more 3-pointers, but Tri-Cities hit 48 percent from the field and 12-of-24 from the free-throw line in the loss.

Tri-Cities is now atop the SE2B standings.

WWVA hit just 21-of-57 from the field, good for 37 percent, and only managed to hit 7-of-13 from the charity stripe.

“(It was a) disappointing loss,” WWVA coach Scott Wagner said. “(Tri-Cities) Prep really defended us well and we did not shoot well enough to win.”

Mat Hanson led the Knights with 17 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the field and a 4-of-5 effort at the line.

“Hanson played very good tonight, offensively and defensively,” Wagner said.

Alex Wagner added 12 points after making 4-of-9 shots from downtown and Cam Fitzgerald chipped in nine.

WWVA held a 26-24 lead at the half and extended that lead to three, 40-37, after three quarters, but Tri-Cities outscored the Knights 21-14 in the final period to record the win.

WWVA hosts Dayton Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.

“We will be working hard to prepare for Dayton Saturday night at WWVA,” coach Wagner said.
