WALLA WALLA — The 2013 Seattle Mariners Caravan rolls into Walla Walla for a free public autograph session with pitcher Charlie Furbush, outfielder Casper Wells and the Mariner Moose on Thursday.
This year’s Caravan will be at Whitman College’s Reid Campus Center ballroom from 4:15-5:45 p.m. Attendees receive complimentary Mariners autographs, photos with the Mariners Moose and a chance to win prizes.
The stop is part of a three-week tour with stops in 26 communities across the Pacific Northwest. In addition to Walla Walla, other stops on this leg of the Caravan include Yakima, Wenatchee, Moses Lake, Spokane, Coeur d’Alene and Tri-Cities.
Pitcher Furbush was 5-2 with a 2.72 ERA in 48 relief appearances during the 2012 season. He was especially tough on left-handed batters, who had a .147 batting average against him.
Furbush recorded 33 1/3 scoreless innings over two stretches and was one of six Mariners pitchers who combined for a no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 8.
Outfielder Wells spent time at the Major League level and with the Mariners AAA club, the Tacoma Rainiers, last season.
He appeared in 93 games, including 87 games in the outfield, where his defense led the team with eight outfield assists.
He had a career-high seven-game hitting streak from June 13-20.
