ONTARIO — The Mac-Hi Pioneers were outscored 20-6 here in the first half of Greater Oregon League Conference girls basketball play Saturday, and went on to fall, 45-28.

Scoring six points apiece for Mac-Hi were Sam Tveidt, Avery Wells and Makia Carlson.

Carlson and Tveidt also added 10 boards apiece as the Pioneers pulled down 31 rebounds as a team.

“There was a good post battle inside with Makia Carlson and Ontario’s Jessica Lange,” Mac-Hi coach Nicole Christian said. “Makia played good defense and held her to only eight points in the game. Lange was one of the best players in the conference last season and averages 15-20 points a game, normally. Carlson also had the offensive contributions.”

The Pioneers brought up five junior varsity players to the varsity squad for the game.

“Our first unit did well,” Christian said. “It was one of the best games of the year by them.

“Our second team is new and learning,” she said. “One of our freshman, Sam Tveidt, had her best game of the year with the 10 boards and six points.”

Mac-Hi (3-9 overall, 0-2) travels to Baker for another GOL game Friday for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
