ROYAL CITY — The Pomeroy Pirates wrestlers couldn’t crack the top three team spots, but had five individual placers in the top four at the Royal Rumble here Saturday.
Ryan Smith (160 pounds) and Wyatt Jenkins (170) both placed second.
Smith improved to 10-3 on the season and Jenkins is now 23-2 overall.
Freshman Adam Herres took third at 14 5 pounds.
“This was probably Adam’s best day of the year,” Pomeroy coach Brian Slaybaugh said. “Hopefully, it will help him get better and turn the corner.”
The two Pirates’ fourth-place finishers included Steven Wysocki and Kyle Hyer.
The tournament’s top three team placers were Royal City, Wahluke and Reardan.
