POMEROY — Pomeroy’s girls are living up to coach Nettie Severs’ expectations after handing Asotin a 49-40 defeat here Tuesday night.
“The girls played really hard,” Severs said of the Southeast 1B League Pirates’ victory over the SE2B Panthers. “This game is kind of how I expected them to play all season. It was a really good win for us.”
Asotin led a low-scoring first half with a 16-14 halftime lead.
The Pirates took the court for the third quarter and outscored the Panthers 25-14 in the third quarter and maintained their lead in the fourth quarter.
Asotin made just 17-of-71 field goals in the game.
“We didn’t score a lot in the first half,” Severs said. “We came out after halftime and the shots started falling for us. “
Mackenzie Monahan scored 15 points to lead Pomeroy, with teammates Savannah Ruark putting up 11 and Emily Jentz 10.
“We had a good defensive game,” she said. “They outrebounded us (35-29), especially on the offensive end, but we were able to contest shots and hold their percentage down.”
Pomeroy, now 4-10 overall and 2-8 in SE1B play, heads to Rosalia Saturday night for a league matchup.
