DAYTON — The Bulldogs are still one game behind first-place DeSales in the Southeast 2B girls basketball ranks after gutting out a 60-56, overtime victory over Asotin here Saturday night.

Dayton improved to 5-1 in league and 12-4 overall.

“It was quite physical,” Dayton coach Clayton Strong said of the contest in which 58 fouls were called and seven players fouled out.

Asotin, which led 23-13 midway through second quarter, got a 3-point goal from Sarah Nicholas at the fourth-quarter buzzer to force overtime.

The win was the Bulldogs’ third over the Panthers this season. The previous two wins were decided by a combined seven points.

“I knew it wouldn’t be easy,” Strong said.

McKayla Bickelhaupt led Dayton with 20 points.

On Friday, the Bulldogs beat Tri-Cities Prep, 49-29. Bickelhaupt scored 21 to lead the way.

Dayton’s next game is Friday at Waitsburg-Prescott.
