Mac-Hi falls to Baker, 48-24

BAKER — Mac-Hi dropped to 0-3 in the Greater Oregon League here Friday night after a 48-24 girls basketball loss to the host Bulldogs.

That despite a double-double effort from post Makia Carlson, who scored 15 points and secured 10 rebounds.

The Pioneers trailed 20-10 at halftime, but Baker blew the game open with a 22-6 blitz in the third quarter.

“The third quarter killed us,” Mac-Hi coach Nicole Christian said. “Take away that third quarter, and we’re in the game.”

Mac-Hi, now 3-11 overall, hosts league-leading La Grande on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Missed FTs doom W-P against T-C Prep

PASCO — Waitsburg-Prescott failed to convert at the free-throw line here Saturday in Southeast 2B girls basketball action.

W-P made only 12-of-37 attempts and Tri Cities Prep emerged with a 51-47 win.

W-P took a 22-21 lead into the locker room at the half, but the Jaguars came out with an 18-5 third-quarter run to take a 39-27 lead into the fourth.

W-P came back with a 20-12 closing quarter, but fell short.

“The third quarter was bad,” W-P assistant coach Angie Potts said. “We picked it up offensively in the fourth.”

In the end, it was the poor free-throw shooting that did W-P in. W-P missed 11 free throws over the last eight minutes.

“When you shoot 12-of-37 from the line, it makes it hard to keep your offensive momentum,” Potts added. “The stats, except for the free throws, were pretty even. You’ve got to hit your free throws.”

Krystal Harris led W-P with 16 points and eight rebounds. Chelsey Brannock added nine and Stacia Deal finished with eight.

W-P hosts Dayton Friday.
