MILTON-FREEWATER — La Grande defeated Mac-Hi 64-23 Tuesday night in a Greater Oregon League girls basketball game.

Makia Carlson, a 6-foot junior post, led the Pioneers (0-3 GOL, 3-12 overall) with 10 points and 12 rebounds but suffered an ankle injury late in the game.

“We’ve already had four girls go down for season-ending injuries,” Mac-Hi coach Nicole Christian said. “We’re just hoping that we don’t have to add Makia to that list.”

La Grande (3-0, 13-3) is ranked No. 1 amongst Class 4A schools in the OSAA’s RPI rating system.

Lauren Mills scored 11 points to lead the Tigers in scoring.

Although it was another lopsided loss, Christian said the game was an improvement over the last time her team faced La Grande — an 83-11 loss.

“The girls actually played pretty well tonight,” Christian said. “The girls kept their heads up tonight and their attitudes were good, especially against a team that blew us out of the water last time we played them.”

The Pioneers host Ontario Saturday at 6 p.m.
