MOSES LAKE — Big Bend came out of the locker room on fire here Saturday in NWAACC East Region men’s basketball action.

The Vikings shot 58 percent from the floor, 21-of-36, in the first 20 minutes and took a 56-35 lead to the break. Walla Walla Community College never recovered as the Vikings went on to post a 86-70 win.

The Vikings lit it up and the Warriors didn’t, 13-of-39 in the first half, 23-of-68 for the game.

“We came out a little flat,” Warrior coach Jeff Reinland said. “They shot it pretty well and we’re not shooting it very well. We played a lot better in the second half.”

Big Bend’s tandem of Brendan Westendorf and Kyle Nield led the Vikings. Westendorf scored 27 and handed out seven assists, and Nield contributed 26 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.

“Those two are pretty good,” Reinland said. “We had trouble matching up. Our defense was not good in the first half, but it was much better in the second half.”

Case Rada led the Warriors with 21 points. Dylan Radliff added 19 and Dallas Reich chipped in 15.

Big Bend, ranked No. 4 in the NWAACC, remains atop the East at 6-1. The Warriors fall to 3-4 and will host CBC Wednesday.

“We’ve just got to play a little better,” Reinland said. “We’ll see if we can build on our second half and get something going.”
