Pomeroy boys avenge loss to Colton

COLTON, Wash. — Riley Bott scored a career-high 27 points to lead Pomeroy past Southeast 1B rival Colton, 62-56, Tuesday night.

Pomeroy avenged a 64-46 loss suffered to the Wildcats earlier this season with the victory.

“We shot a heck of a lot better tonight,” Pomeroy coach Brian Koller said. “And defensively we played with a lot more intensity.”

Bott, a 6-foot-6 combo guard, did most of his damage from mid-range except for a pair of slam-dunks late in the contest, Koller said.

The Pirates trailed 36-24 at the half, but outscored Colton 18-7 in the third and 20-13 in the fourth.

“They had a tremendous second quarter,” Koller said. “We made some adjustments in the second half defensively and it worked out pretty well for us.”

Pomeroy (13-5, 10-4 SE1B) pulled into a tie for third place with Colton (11-7, 10-4) with the win.

The top six teams from the SE1B will attend the district tournament beginning Feb. 7.

Pomeroy hosts Touchet Friday and first-place Garfield-Palouse Saturday in what could potentially be a battle for the first seed to the tournament.
