Robert Lee Lowery, formerly of Walla Walla, died June 25, 2013, at the age of 84. He was born April 23, 1929, in Farmersville, Calif.

He served in the Navy from 1946 to 1948, then joined the Army in 1950, retiring in 1968. He served in the Korean War and was a gunner on a H-21 helicopter during his two tours of duty in the Vietnam Conflict, receiving numerous medals.

He met the love of his life, Rosemary, while stationed at the Presidio of San Francisco in 1950, marrying her after only three weeks. After retiring from the Army at Ft. Richardson, Alaska, he moved to Walla Walla, where he taught ROTC at Walla Walla High School for six years. He then moved to California and earned a college degree in A&P then worked as a helicopter mechanic for a logging company. His last move was to Grover Beach, Calif., where he spent the last 34 years of his life enjoying his love of the beach, the outdoors, bicycling, his grandkids and traveling. He had an extreme passion for motorcycles and enjoyed riding his entire life taking numerous trips on his bikes. He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, where he attained the 32nd degree.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary. He is survived by his three children, Lee Lowery Jr. and his wife Patti of Walla Walla, Randy Dean of Tolleson, Ariz., Ann Gisler and her husband Jeff of Los Gatos, Calif.; two grandchildren, Holly and Austin.
