WALLA WALLA — A porch fire Tuesday afternoon endangered a historic home on Washington Street.
Walla Walla Fire Department officials said a youth in the home at about 2 p.m. spotted the first signs of the fire at 532 Washington St. The youth gathered up two other children in the home and safely ushered them outside, along with two dogs.
Fire crews found two more dogs in the home; both were uninjured.
Fire Chief Bob Yancey said the fire was contained to the porch area and estimated damage to the home at about $20,000. David Gilvey, of College Place, is the listed owner of the home, built in the late-1800s. Joe and Laura Koning are renters.
Yancey said the cause of the fire is undetermined, but no foul play is suspected.
