The University of Washington named Walla Wallan Casey Hutchinson Most Outstanding Accounting Graduate for the Class of 2013.

The Walla Walla High School Class of 2009 co-valedictorian was nominated by the accounting faculty of the UW Foster School of Business. The honor is based on leadership, strategic thinking, contribution to the community, grades and classroom performance, according to her understandably proud parents, Kerri and Graham Hutchinson.

Casey graduated magna cum laude from the UW Honors Program with a bachelor’s of business in accounting. She received the WSCPA Bill Wells Scholarship and a UW Merit Scholarship for post graduate study, and has been accepted into the UW masters of professional accounting program.

After an internship with the international accounting firm KPMG last summer, Casey is working for two months in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Seattle through KPMG’s global internship program.


Two area students made the Oregon State University scholastic honor roll spring term in Corvallis.

A total of 874 students earned straight-A/ 4.0 GPAs, including junior Andrew J. Glaeser, pre-mechanical engineering.

Another 3,306 earned a B-plus/3.5 or better to make the listing, including Cameron T. Mountain, freshman, pre-business.


Among the more than 700 students who received a diploma at George Fox University’s spring commencement ceremonies May 4 are Tyler McCoon of Waitsburg earned a bachelor’s in management degree; and Caleb Willard of Walla Walla earned a bachelor of science in engineering degree.

About 375 students participated in the traditional undergraduate ceremony after completing study in one of George Fox’s 41 bachelor’s degree majors. Another 370 students took part in the ceremony for graduate, seminary and degree-completion students and 44 were adult degree program students who earned bachelor’s degrees.

Ceremonies took place in Miller Gymnasium in the Wheeler Sports Center on the school’s Newberg campus.
