UNION COUNTY — Oregon search and rescue teams are looking for a 51-year-old Walla Walla man who may have drowned after his canoe capsized on Jubilee Lake, between Weston and Elgin.

According to Sgt. Bill Miller of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Jeffrey Scott Anspach, 51, was canoeing with a female friend Sunday when the boat capsized. The pair attempted to pull the boat to shore, according to Miller.

“We’re basically treating this as a missing persons case,” Miller said, adding that search and rescue teams from Union and Baker counties have been searching the lake.

Miller said divers have been deployed, and Klamath County Search and Rescue is sending side scan sonar equipment to assist with the search efforts.
