UMATILLA COUNTY — The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of an apparently random assault on a 54-year-old Hispanic man Monday.
Sheriff Terry Rowan said Rueben Mitchell was assaulted at his home on Umapine Road near Stateline Road by another man wielding a machete. Rowan said Mitchell suffered bruising to his arm and head, but declined medical attention.
“It does sound like the injuries were not that significant,” Rowan said.
The motive is under investigation Rowan said, adding that the Sheriff’s Office is attempting to locate a suspect.
“There’s still a considerable amount of investigation that needs to be done,” he said.
Due to a language barrier, the incident was not reported until Tuesday when a friend of Mitchell called police and served as a translator.
