Missing man's body found in Jubilee Lake

UNION COUNTY — Search and Rescue teams found the body of a Walla Walla man who drowned after his canoe capsized Sunday on Jubilee Lake.

According to Sgt. Dave Nafziger of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the body of Jeffrey Scott Anspach, 51, was discovered Tuesday morning in 25 feet of water with the aid of a side-scan sonar device provided by Klamath County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue.

“(They tipped over) out in the middle of the lake,” Nafziger said this morning.

Anspach was canoeing with a female friend when the canoe capsized.

Neither Anspach nor the unidentified woman were wearing life jackets, according to Nafziger.

The two were apparently trying get the overturned canoe to shore, but only the woman was able to swim the distance.

Nafziger said Anspach’s next of kin has been notified.

His body was transported to Loveland’s Funeral Home in La Grande.
