WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Watershed Management Partnership has a new executive director.
Chris Hyland has been promoted to executive director following the departure in May of Cathy Schaeffer, the partnership’s first director.
Hyland has been with the partnership since 2011 and was previously a project manager for 17 years with the U.S. Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District Office.
The partnership also has a new staff member, Phil Neuman, who has been named program director for water management programs. Newman will replace Hyland in directing those programs, which are an ongoing effort to partner with basin entities, tribes and state agencies to implement new ways to manage water in the Walla Walla River basin watershed.
Authorized by the state Legislature in 2009, the partnership is a 10-year pilot program for shared governance of water resources to enhance instream flows through flexibility for water rights holders. Information is available online at www.wallawallawatershed.org.
