Memorial Day. The day when people wave the flag and talk about how much they support the troops, how they appreciate everything they have done for us. I say hogwash!
No, I’m not a big fan of the military industrial complex, nor have I been in favor of most of our wars, but contrary to popular belief, I do support our troops and will continue to do so until the last one comes home!
Have you noticed we are all about those brave young men, if they are willing to die for us, but if they live and need our help we turn our backs! The worst thing about war is how we treat our veterans if they live!
Let me explain. In the past few years, we have stood by and watched as our senators and representatives (including Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers) have failed to bring to a vote bills that would assist homeless veterans and bills that would give tax breaks to businesses that hire veterans.
How is that “supporting our troops?” How much has been cut from their health care and other benefits? Yet, the “good people of our legislative district,” told Ms. McMorris Rodgers, “Good Job!” and sent her back to Washington to do more of the same.
As long as we have veterans or their families who are going hungry or homeless, or without the jobs they seek, don’t tell me how much you support our troops, don’t bore me with your oratories, keep your flag out of my face and your religion out of the conversation because the word “hypocrisy” is what I’m thinking.
Yes, I support our troops and I’m thankful for all who served and gave me the right to write this letter. Not just those who died, but those who we now force to live in disgrace!
