PASCO — The Northwest Xplosion ’00 12-and-under girls fastpitch team finished third in the 14U gold bracket in the Three Rivers Rally Tournament held in Pasco over the weekend, concluding the weekend with a 4-2 record.
Xplosion ’00 opened Saturday’s play with a 19-0 mercy-rule victory over the Northwest Sparks, out of Tri-Cities. They then fell, 8-2, to the Idaho Heat. In the third game on Saturday, Xplosion ’00 beat the Spokane Diamonds, 4-1.
With the 2-1 record, Xplosion ’00 finished second in their pool and was seeded into the Gold bracket for Sunday’s play. On Sunday, thanks to a 15-hit attack, Xplosion ‘00 won their opening round game over the Couer d’Alene Crush, 11-6.
In the semifinal game, Xplosion ’00 faced off against the Washington Angels, the eventual tournament champions. Xplosion ’00 jumped out to an early lead and led the Angels by a score of 9-3 after three innings. However, the Angels took advantage of walks and Xplosion miscues to tie the game at 9-9 as the 90-minute time limit expired. The teams then played one extra inning and the Angels plated a run in the top half of the inning and Xplosion ’00 threatened, but could not score in the bottom half of the inning to fall, 10-9.
In the third-place game, the Xplosion ’00 then faced the Walla Walla Xplosion ’98. After scoring five runs in the third the Xplosion ’00 cruised to a 10-3 win.
The Xplosion ’00’s overall record is 31-9. They next play June 15-16 while playing in Walla Walla in the Sweet Onion Invitational.
