A U-B item (“FBI: Suspects in Benghazi attack identified, but still at large” May 21) stated, U.S. officials say they have identified five men they believe might be behind the attack on the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, last year.
The officials say they have enough evidence to justify seizing them by military force as suspected terrorists — but not enough proof to try them in a U.S. civilian court as the Obama administration prefers.
So the officials say the men remain at large while the FBI gathers more evidence.
The decision not to seize the men militarily underscores the White House’s aim to move away from hunting terrorists as enemy combatants and toward trying them as criminals in a civilian justice system.”
Astonishing! President Obama (and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton) obviously failed in Benghazi, but moving away from hunting terrorists as enemy combatants?
Our forces are fighting the cancer of militant Islamism in the ongoing war on terror and yet — as with Boston — Obama wants to read fanatic Jihadists their rights and let them “lawyer up. That is insane.
Islamic militants must be celebrating the weakness of this administration, which also stopped harsh interrogation methods (if necessary to save lives), still plans to close Gitmo and pretends the fight with al-Qaida and it’s surrogates is winding down. What about Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood terrorist Dr. Ayman Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden’s mentor and now al-Quida leader, who is smarter and more dangerous than was bin Laden?
This war on (Islamist) terror will continue for years. Displaying weakness and lack of resolve will cost American lives.
Benghazi security measures should have been in place well before four brave Americans died there. That’s on Clinton as well as Obama. See Regional Security Officer Eric Nordstrom’s congressional testimony. I strongly appreciated Nordstrom’s testimony, having personally experienced dealing with regional security officers and SEAL team/JSOC members in hazardous locations such as Beirut, Khartoum and the Kuwait Theater of Operation (during Desert Storm).
Soon as Obama knew of the ongoing attack, a reaction force should have been dispatched along with close air support. Even if lives could not have been saved in time (we’ll never know now), the two U.S. facilities should have been secured by U.S. forces to avoid loss of any classified material and prevent corruption of evidence.
For this and other reasons, in my opinion as one who served under nine presidents, we’re experiencing the most incompetent one in recent history.
