With an eye to the future, Walla Walla is looking into a lower-cost option to provide summer water fun: spray parks. Unlike a pool, spray parks feature fixtures that spray water, allowing people to cool off while providing a safe, zero-depth environment.
Currently, the city has teamed up with the Rotary Club and the 2013 Sherwood Trust Leadership Class to begin fundraising for the project, which is estimated to cost about $250,000 per park.
Washington Park has been tentatively chosen as the first location, and could be completed by the summer of 2014 if the city is able to secure grant funding. Eventually, the hope is to build a total of three parks.
Joan Schille, the city’s park maintenance supervisor, said the project was still in early stages and entirely depends on grants, which the Rotary Club and Leadership Class are helping to apply for.
