Family Movie Night makes its seasonal premiere this weekend at Borleske Stadium.
The summer movie season is sponsored by Inland Cellular, in cooperation with the Downtown Walla Walla Foundation, Walla Walla Parks and Recreation Department, Walla Walla Public Library, Walla Walla Dental Group and Walla Walla Sweets baseball.
This year’s lineup includes a showing of “The Goonies” on Saturday. It will be followed July 13 with “The Pirates: Band of Misfits” and on Aug. 10 with “The Lorax.”
The stadium, 409 E. Rees Ave., opens for guests at 8 p.m. The movie is set to begin at 8:45 p.m.
The events are free, but guests should plan to bring their own seating for the outfield. Concessions will be available at the stadium. Participants are encouraged to pick up their snacks onsite. They’re also asked to leave dogs at home.
The summer movies are shown in conjunction with the library’s “Read the Book, See the Movie” program. Readers can check out the books upon which each film is based or books that tie into the films, said Children’s Librarian Liz George. “We have experience a wonderful response to the program the past several years and are happy to be able to add yet another incentive to keep kids reading over their summer break,” George said in a prepared statement.
The event also reflects Inland Cellular’s encouragement of family together time, the sponsor said. “Family Movie Night is a wonderful way for us to give back to the community and provide a safe and enjoyable outlet for summer fun,” said Michael Mettler, Inland Celluar’s marketing consultant. “We encourage our friends and neighbors to join us for these wonderful summer films.” For more details call the downtown foundation, 529-8755; Inland Cellular, 629-2500; or Achieva Marketing Group, 529-5525.
