EPHRATA, Wash. — Bears pitchers AJ Carkner and Dylan Shuler pitched a pair of gems and the Walla Wallans won a pair of one-sided games against the Columbia Basin Desert Dogs and Lacey Rainiers Sunday at the Johnson-O’Brien Stadium in Ephrata, Wash.
Carkner gave up just three hits and struck out 13 in a complete-game, 10-0 victory in the opener against the Dogs and Shuler kept the shutout going with a one-hitter, 7-0, in the nightcap.
“Both pitchers did an outstanding job of working ahead and commanding the zone,” Bears coach Brian Kitamura said in a press release. “Dylan kept Lacey off balance all game and AJ continues to get stronger each time out.”
The Bears didn’t struggle on offense either, backing up their arms with 22 hits on the day. Josh Eggers and Scott Kramer led the way, with each knocking four base hits.
“We were able to take advantage of opportunities the other teams gave us and utilize our speed on the bases,” Kitamura said. “It’s encouraging to see our guys making good adjustments in-game. We’re moving in the right direction.”
The Bears improve to 7-2 overall and next play in the 15th annual Chico American Legion Father’s Day Classic in Chico, Calif. The tournament begins Wednesday. The Bears face the Tri-County Gamblers Thursday.
