CASPER, Wyo. — Walla Walla Community College’s men’s rodeo team was in third place after Monday’s action the College National Finals Rodeo.
The Warriors earned 160 points on Monday, trailing Sam Ouston State at 305 and Southern Idaho at 295.
Jake Minor and Bryce Palmer accounted for WWCC’s points with a first-place run in team roping. The Warrior duo clocked 5.2 seconds in the first go to sit atop the standings and earn 80 points apiece.
Walla Walla teammates Zachary Justesen and Kane Thiele turned in 7.3-second runs to sit in ninth place, with Brady Ramone didn’t get a time in.
In steer wrestling, WWCC’s Koty Kamm didn’t record a time, and was in 37th in tie-down roping in 19.9 seconds.
Cain Smith just missed making a qualifying ride as he stayed atop Frontier Rodeo Company’s Harlem Nights for 7.73 seconds.
On the women’s side, in breakaway roping Warrior ShayLynn Jones was 19th with no time, and Brittany Leasy 33rd in 3.5 seconds.
In barrel racing, WWCC’s Kelsey Streeter turned in a 15.29 to sit in 39th. Walla Walla’s Rachel Richards tied her goat in 8.8 seconds to sit in 48th place.
