Seatbelt and cellphone use violations cited in emphasis patrols


Law enforcement emphasis patrols in Walla Walla and Garfield counties from May 20 to June 2 resulted in 39 citations for seatbelt infractions and 25 cellphone/texting tickets, according to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission..

In addition, one misdemeanor warrant arrest was made and 30 speeding violations, two child passenger safety infractions as well as six uninsured motorists and eight suspended/revoked license violations were issued.

Statewide, during the patrols, law enforcement officers wrote 2,321 seatbelt violations and 1,448 cellphone/ texting tickets. Last year, during this same time period, officers on the extra patrols statewide issued 3,171 seat belt violations and 1,059 cellphone violations were written.
