WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Griz finished up their Sweet Onion Invitational tournament with a 17-11 victory over the Caldwell Bobcats Sunday at Borleske Stadium to take fifth at the nine-team tourney.
“We had a very good tournament,” Griz assistant coach Zach Armijo said. “We scored a lot of runs, but we gave ups a lot of runs, too. That’s why we didn’t play for first, second, third or fourth, it came down to runs allowed.”
Joe Yenney started Sunday’s game for the Griz, going five inning before Jack Leahy came in. Dexter Aichele closed out the victory.
“We pounded the ball,” Armijo said of the tourney. “Our pitching was fairly good, but we gave up a lot of errors. We were pretty happy with the way the guys bounced back.”
The Griz, now 11-6 overall, finished the tournament 4-1. They head to Pendleton on Wednesday.
