Harvest Foods plans Blast from the Past

Walla Walla’s Southgate grocery store is taking customers back in time Thursday.

The “Blast from the Past” celebration at Walla Walla’s Harvest Foods, 905 S. Second Ave., runs noon to 6 p.m. and features samples of dinnertime staples from the 1950s and ‘60s, said owner Nolan Lockwood.

Tuna noodle casserole, mac ‘n’ cheese, meat loaf, fried bologna, creamed peas and potatoes, Jell-O salads and more are on the sample menu.

Starting at 4 p.m., Northwest band The Gems will perform live at the store with hits from the late ‘50s and early ‘60s. Their performance will run until 6 p.m. The Walla Walla Cruisers will also be a driving force, with a trip to show off some cars after 5 p.m.

Before the live music performance “elevator music” will pump into the store, and the crew will dress in poodle skirts and T-shirts.
