William James “Jim” Phillips, 75, of Milton-Freewater passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the St. James Episcopal Church in Milton-Freewater at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Rebecca Hendricks officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at the Mt. View Cemetery in Walla Walla. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, from 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in memory of Jim Phillips to the St. James Episcopal Church in care of the funeral home.
Jim Phillips was born on Nov. 28, 1937, in Walla Walla, to Harry and Mary Phillips of Umapine. He graduated from McLoughlin High School in 1956. After graduating Jim served in the National Guard for a couple of years and continued working on the family farm. While working on the ranch he acquired many skills and experiences. After a few years of working Jim was ready for some traveling. He used skills he learned and was able to live and work abroad in Australia for a couple of years. While there he developed many lifelong friends. It was an adventure he would never forget. After returning home he worked in the meat-cutting business for a number of years. Jim finished his working career as a custodian in the Milton-Freewater Schools for 15-plus years. After retiring he enjoyed taking drives to the mountains. He was a member of the Elks Club and the St James Episcopal Church of Milton-Freewater. He was very passionate and involved with his church.
Survivors include his wife, Sofia Phillips of Milton-Freewater; sister, Susan Bolling of Weston; one daughter, Tina Phillips; two granddaughters, Luna and Marisol Kack; son-in-law, Luis Kack all of Seattle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
