Marian Evans Hoare died May 13, 2013, at 99 years old at her apartment in Seattle. She was born March 9, 1914, in Chicago and was raised and educated in Prairie du Chien, Wisc.
Marian was preceded in death by her beloved son, Dr. Dick Hoane; and her husband, Bertram W. Hoare. She is survived by her four daughters, Mary Ann Balkenhol, Janet Maffeo, Susan Hansen (Mel), and Stephanie Clawson (Don); 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She and her husband of 65 years were longtime residents of Walla Walla. Marian was very involved in the Walla Walla community as a Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader, Campfire leader, president and member of The Walla Walla Art Club, president and member of The Engineers Wives Club, member of Walla Walla Choraliers and longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and choir. She was a good seamstress and also spent many hours painting, wallpapering and caring for her home. Marian was selected as Walla Walla “Homemaker of the Year” in 1960. After her children were raised, she became an accomplished artist.
Marian enjoyed entertaining, music, dancing, the arts, traveling the world and reading. She authored her own autobiography called “Life is a Trip” while she was in her late 90s.
Marian was a generous woman who always thought of others, lived life to its fullest, and brought joy to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Service will be at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Friday, June 28, 2013, at 1 p.m.
