DAYTON — Two lost skiers were rescued by the Bluewood Ski Patrol with the aid of a cellphone GPS locator.

On Sunday at 4:45 p.m. a group of Walla Walla University students reported two members of a skiing party missing.

The ski patrol was able to call one of the missing skiers on a cell and through GPS coordinates determine they were in the Manila Springs area on the backside of Triple Nickel Ridge.

Two ski patrollers were dispatched and reached the lost skiers in 30 minutes; it took another 20 minutes lead the skiers back up the mountain to the slopes.

Bluewood Ski Patrol director and paramedic Brandon McKinney said the lost skiers had taken what they thought looked like an interesting run, but ended up lost for about two hours.

McKinney said the skiers were exhausted after their climb but uninjured.

This was the second time this season the ski patrol has rescued skiers from the Manila Springs area, McKinney said.
