DUPONT, Wash. — The Missionaries began the spring season with a fourth-place finish at the Pacific Lutheran Invitational over weekend, posting a two-round team total of 656.
The Lutes walked away with first place, posting a score of 600.
Andrew Welch was the top finisher for Whitman, carding a 78 and 80 (158) to finish 15th.
Rounds of 82 and 79 (161) placed Scott Martin in a tie for 21st.
Geoff Burks totaled a 167 (tied for 30th).
Rounding out the scoring for the Missionaries were Daniel Hoffman with a 170 (33rd) and Connor Hood with a 175 (35th).
Dustin Hegge of PLU earned medalist honors, firing a second round 69 to post a 146 total, one shot ahead of Whitworth’s Austin Billiter.
In the team scoring, after the Lutes’ first place, the Pirates’ A and B teams finished second and third, respectively, while Lewis & Clark placed fifth behind Whitman.
