College Place a good fit for workout franchise

A pair of fitness fanatics has brought CrossFit to College Place.

Jesse Olson and Jake Freeman are the proprietors behind Blue Mountain CrossFit, which recently opened at 400 W. Whitman Drive.

The program focuses on functional fitness in short, intense workouts incorporating barbells, bumper plates, kettle bells, wall balls, box jumps and pull-up rigs. Workouts are focused on achieving as many reps as possible in a certain time period.

Like another CrossFit gym in Walla Walla, Blue Mountain CrossFit is part of a network of more than 5,500 affiliated gyms, according to the CrossFit website.

Olson and Freeman, both 23, opened the College Place spot in December.

A college student, Olson has been passionate about endurance sports, including triathlons and marathons. He first learned about CrossFit in 2007 while he was in the military. He introduced it to Freeman, a North Dakota transplant, about a year and a half ago.

Classes are offered every hour between 5 and 8 a.m. Monday through Friday and every hour those days between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. An open gym time is offered every Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. for those who want to give it a try, work on skill or want to do their own workout.

The initial workout for those wanting to try it is free. The monthly cost for couples for unlimited workouts is $170; a 10-workout punch card is $80. A 15 percent discount is offered to health-care employees, current and ex-military personnel, law enforcement and firefighters.

For more details, visit or call Olson at 559-772-9723 or Freeman at 701-330-2467.
