DeSales seniors appreciate support for flag project

On behalf of the DeSales Catholic High School senior class of 2013 I would like to acknowledge our community, those outside the community, veterans and local businesses who contributed to our senior class gift in memory of 1st Lt. Mathew Fazzari.

Mathew, who graduated from DeSales in 2005 and Gonzaga University in 2010, was deployed to Afghanistan as a helicopter pilot in May of 2012.

Three weeks later, on June 6, his helicopter was shot down by Taliban insurgents.

He and his commander, Capt. Scott Pace, lost their lives valiantly fighting to protect the ground troops who had been ambushed while protecting Afghan citizens.

Through our senior gift — a large United States flag that will descend from the ceiling of our gym — we will remember 1st Lt. Fazzari’s courage, duty and honor while protecting our country.

Once again, we appreciate the support for our fundraiser in honor of 1st Lt. Fazzari.
