WALLA WALLA — The city’s local fishin’ hole for area kids will be ready to tackle Monday with the stocking of the first of two loads of trout from Lyons Ferry Fish Hatchery.
A second load for Jefferson Park Pond is to be put into the kids-only fishing spot on March 28 or 29, according to a city Parks & Recreation announcement. Each truckload holds 500 catchable trout and 50 jumbo trout.
Fishing at Jefferson Park Pond is governed by Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. A permit is not required to fish but fishing is limited to youths ages 14 and younger.
Adults are allowed to help bait a hook and remove the fish from the hook, but they cannot fish, cast the line or hold the pole for a child.
Fishing is allowed year-round from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. No boats or floating devices are allowed on the pond.
