RICHLAND — Walla Walla High School invaded the home of the defending state 3A girls golf champions here Friday in golf action at Horn Rapids.

The Hanford Falcons looked determined to defend their state title as they claimed a team title at their own invite with a score of 235. Wenatchee was second at 286 and the Blue Devils tied Southridge at 288 for third in the 18-team field.

Hanford’s Kelsey Aiello took medalist honors as she fired a 76 on the par 72 Horn Rapids course. Teammate Lacy Swared came home two shots back of Aiello to finish second.

“They (Hanford) have picked up right where they left off,” Blue Devil coach Mike Patterson said of the defending state champs.

Wa-Hi’s Jessica Huntsman shot an 87 and was ninth overall. Kendall Dunvont fired a 94 to complete the 18-hole scorers for the Blue Devils.

Shanna Postlewait, with a 53, and Marisa Jimenez, with a 54, fired the two counting nine-hole scores for the Blue Devils. Kailee Hudson, in her first competition, fashioned a 59 over nine holes in a non-scoring role.

“The girls were pretty disappointed,” Patterson said. “They knew they left a lot of strokes out there. I saw our potential. If we can cut down our missed shots, we’ll be in the hunt.”

Wa-Hi travels to Moses Lake Monday.
