Whitman women fall to Williams


WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Whitman fell to Williams 63-53 in the Elite Eight of the women's NCAA DIII tournament at Williams' Chandler Gym in Williamstown, Mass., Saturday night, ending its first tournament run in program history.

Williams led by as much as 19, including a 41-22 lead at the half, but Whitman rallied to pull within eight, 58-50, with 2:13 left on a Sarah Anderegg jumper before Williams closed the Missionaries out.

Anderegg, a post, led Whitman with 18 points on the night. Heather Johns finished with 14.

Williams' Danny Rainer led all scorers with 22 points.

Whitman ends its season at 23-6 after making the NCAA tournament for the first time.
