Chef Chris Ainsworth has made the who’s who of American chefs.
The owner of Saffron Mediterranean Kitchen has been nominated to the 2013 edition of “Best Chefs America,” a virtual chef’s guide to chefs.
Ainsworth will be included in a registry of the best chefs in the country, according to a notice received from editors of the Charleston, S.C., company behind the book.
More than 5,000 chefs were interviewed to determine who they consider the most talented, most exciting and most influential chefs in the country, the letter stated. According to the Best Chefs America website — bestchefsamerica.com — chefs are scored on a numerical scale based on answers given by peers. The process is calculated to record opinions from leading chefs about the talent of their colleagues. Chefs can not pay to get in the book.
The book will include a foreward from acclaimed food writer Michael Ruhlman, plus photographs highlighting emerging ingredients and culinary trends.
Inclusion in the book is the second major accomplishment for Ainsworth in a matter of weeks. In February he was named a semifinalist for top chef in the Northwest from the James Beard Foundation. Five finalists for that honor will be narrowed from the list of 20 and announced March 18. Winners will be celebrated May 6.
