Letha Lillian (Foreman) Brown, 97, of Walla Walla passed away at her home on March 10, 2013.

Letha was born Feb. 26, 1916, to Delos I. and Nellie A. (Burkholder) Foreman on their ranch near Oreana, Idaho. She spent most of her life in Idaho, living in the Grandview area, Caldwell and Weiser. She moved to Walla Walla in 1999.

Letha graduated from high school in Caldwell, Idaho. She married Walter H. Brown on Feb. 24, 1935, and they farmed in the Mann’s Creek area for many years before moving into Weiser in 1947. Letha attended the Weiser Community Church, was a member of the ladies’ group there and the Shamrock Club. She was an active volunteer with WICAP, helping those less fortunate. One of the things she enjoyed most after retirement was being on the board of Southern Idaho Senior Citizens’ Recreation Area (SISCRA). She and her husband spent many hours helping to build the recreational campground near Donnelly, Idaho. After Letha moved to Walla Walla, she was a faithful attendee of First United Presbyterian Church and Sarah Circle. She belonged to the Senior Citizen Center at the Park and participated in its Christmas bazaar for 13 years by selling handmade crocheted afghans.

Letha was a busy housewife and mother but also worked at various jobs outside the home. At different times she worked at Clark’s Potato Chip Factory in Weiser, Mack’s Grocery on the Oregon side and helped her husband at the Weiser Livestock Company. She operated a restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed cooking and meeting people and later worked at a cannery on the old institute grounds. She was always involved in the lives of her children and raised them to be productive members of society. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Letha is survived by three daughters, Charlotte Claybrooks (Alfred) of Summerdale, Ala., Carrol Hester of Yreka, Calif., Elaine Johnson (Dennis) of Belfair, Wash.; one son, Jerry Brown of Weiser, Idaho; a daughter-in-law, Diane Brown of Walla Walla; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter H. Brown; one son, Walter W. Brown; her parents; and siblings.
