WALLA WALLA — The suspect in the stabbing of a man late last week was formally charged Monday afternoon in Walla Walla County Superior Court with first-degree assault.

Brian Lamprea, 19, of 204 N. Spokane St., No. 19, also is accused of two counts of second-degree assault for allegedly swinging the knife about three feet from two witnesses who were trying to detain him.

Police said the assaults occurred after Lamprea went to a residence in the 200 block of West Sumach Street about 6:15 p.m. Friday.

He began to fight with Felix Marquez, stabbed him multiple times in the abdomen and back, then swung the knife at the witnesses who had chased him as he tried to escape, according to a police report filed in court.

Officials said Lamprea then ran into a stranger’s house in the 100 block of North Fifth Avenue, but was pulled out by one of the witnesses and held until police took him into custody.

Marquez was taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center for treatment.

Lamprea was booked into the County Jail. Bail later was set at $100,000.

Reportedly a local gang member, he recently was released from jail after serving a 74-day sentence for felony riot in a confrontation in which he allegedly stabbed a man in July.
